TIMES JABAR, MALANG – Students majoring in civil engineering at the State Polytechnic of Malang (Polinema) won first place at the International BIM Innovation Contest organized by Diponegoro University in May 2024.
For information, the International BIM Innovation Contest is a competition for participants to design buildings by implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM).
The three students who made Polinema proud were Rohman Suprayogi, Nur Rochmad Zulianto, and Moch. Aril Asyhari Putra. All three are under the guidance of lecturer Bobby Asukmajaya, R. St., MT.
Those 3 guys compete with so many participants from all over Indonesia. They came up with amazing ideas and won the championship with a unique strategy.
“We use BIM dimensions up to 7D, which is not used by the other teams,” said Moch. Aril Asyhari Putra, representing the team from the State Polytechnic of Malang.
They utilize Gamma AR technology to view real-time building data in Augmented Reality (AR), which helps improving the efficiency of inspections, maintenance and training of operational staff.
The team had major obstacles in the competition. These included equipment constraints and tight preparations that led to sleep deprivation and high pressure.
However, despite these obstacles the team was still able to move forward with great results. It was all the result of solid cooperation and open discussions between fellow team members, as well as support from Polinema.
“The software was arguably quite expensive because at that time we only used student and trial licenses, then the time constraints in the work were short and also the obligations of the college assignments that we had to do," said Nur Rochmad Zulianto.
For the students of State Polytechnic of Malang, winning this contest means a lot. Not only as a personal achievement. For them, the victory in the BIM Innovation Contest International Championship at Diponegoro University is a source of pride for Polinema as well as proof that Indonesian students have the ability to excel in civil engineering and the construction industry as a whole.
