Peuyeum received so much interest from the people in Bandung and outside Bandung. That’s why this food industry has developed significantly until the 1950s. There were up to 200 peuyeum makers in Cimenyan sub-district. 

How to Make Peuyeum

The process of making peuyeum is relatively easy. We only need some cassava, water, and yeast. First, we have to peel the cassava and wash them. 

After being washed, the cassava is soaked in water for a while. Then, it is steamed twice. First, it needs to be cooked for 1 hour and a half. Then, to make it properly cooked, it needs to be steamed again for 1 hour. After it is cooked, add some yeast. 

The cassava is put into some bamboo baskets with banana leaves on their base. Then, we should keep the cassava for 2 to 3 days until the whole fermentation process is done. Voila! The cassava has turned into a delicious, soft peuyeum.
